The Origins Movie is about to be released. A movie about how we need to start living sustainably and that we need to act now to stem global warming. A worthwhile cause if there ever was one. And while I agree that we need to live sustainably and that global warming is our biggest challenge yet and that time is indeed running out. The movie is beautifully done and has a gripping narrative. The only problem is that this movie is full of #falsedichotomy #naturalisticfallacy #antigmo and #falsepremise to name just a few #logicalfallacies.
The Origins Movie is about to be released. And from November 13th through November 22nd, you can watch the feature-length movie Origins for FREE from filmmaker Pedram Shojai.
That is why this movie makes me sad. It is hurting our cause, and the saddest part is that it didin’t even have to. You could make a very similar movie without all this anti scientific nonsense. And it would make an even bigger impact. Why? Because hyperbole and misleading statements always hurt us in the end. And making a movie that can’t easily be refuted, would make for a great addition to our arsenal in the fight against climate change.
So. I propose a challenge:
I will pledge $100 to the first person to find 10 minutes of uninterrupted footage of this film, that does not say something that is, a logical fallacy, scientifically wrong or misleading.
I will pledge $1000 to the first documentary team or person that makes a similar movie that does not use logical fallacies, scientifically wrong or misleading statements to try to emphasize it points about climate change and the need for activism. (I would even pledge $1000 to the team behind this movie, if they re-edited this movie along these guidelines)
I know $1000 dollars is not a lot of money. But if we pitch in together it could made to be worthwhile. So that is why I want you to pledge together with me.
Now who is with me?
(State your willingness to pledge in the comments and I will add a new project to Indiegogo.com or some such site to handle all the pledges. If there is enough interest.)
